Why This Book Exists

I'm not a lawyer. I'm not a therapist. I don't play one on TV or in real life.

I'm an IT Engineer. And when I see a problem, I try to solve it—usually with technology. The problem I kept seeing: People who felt trapped.

I watched my mother go through a very difficult divorce. I've been through the process myself. And over the years, I've had countless conversations with friends and colleagues who were stuck—not because they wanted to stay married, but because they believed they couldn't afford to leave.

"Divorce costs $15,000." "I'd need a lawyer, and I can't afford that." "My ex owes me $10,000, but the attorney wants $8,000 to fight for it."

These aren't edge cases. This is what most people believe. And it keeps them married to someone they've already separated from emotionally, financially, and physically.

That's a broken system.

Or at least, it appears broken—because the information people need is buried behind expensive consultations and legal jargon.

So I asked a different question: What if AI could help?

Not replace lawyers. Not give legal advice. But help people understand the process, organize their documents, prepare their filings, and know when they actually need professional help versus when they can handle things themselves.

The result is this book.

What's inside isn't legal advice—it's practical guidance:

  • How to file your own divorce petition (and when that makes sense)
  • How to enforce a judgment yourself when your ex won't comply
  • How to work effectively with a lawyer so you're not paying $350/hour for tasks you could do yourself
  • How to recognize manipulation tactics like DARVO that lawyers can't protect you from
  • How to navigate a high-conflict divorce with a narcissist when traditional advice fails

The mental health chapters matter as much as the legal ones. Manipulation and emotional abuse don't start at filing and don't end at the final decree. Lawyers can't help you with that. But understanding what you're dealing with can.

I wrote this book because I believe:

  • You shouldn't stay married because you think you can't afford divorce
  • You shouldn't spend $10,000 to recover $10,000
  • You shouldn't feel lost even after hiring an attorney
  • You shouldn't fight a battle you don't understand

This book won't make you a legal expert. But it will help you ask better questions, make informed decisions, and take control of a process that feels overwhelming.

Whether you use a lawyer or not, you'll be a better client, a smarter advocate for yourself, and more prepared for what comes next.

That's why this book exists.
